Who is a fashion designer?
A fashion designer focuses on outlining, designing, and creating clothing garments. Fashion designers however do not just make clothes, they do often apply cultural attitudes, aesthetics, and inspirations to their designs. Designers also work in tandem with other individuals in the fashion business such as stylists, merchandisers, seamsters, patternmakers, modeling agencies, costume designers, magazine editors, and more.
What does a fashion designer do?
A fashion designer will be needed to produce something that other people will love to wear. The exploratory process of sketching, selecting fabrics, or revising your first muslin may spark an idea for you but inspiration may change as you change models, decide on hair and makeup or plan how to show your collection on the runway.
Job brief
We are currently looking for a Fashion designer who is ready to join our team ad oversees the research and production of new clothing lines based on the current market trends. Fashion designer responsibilities will include traveling to various fashion events and analysis of market data to determine fashion trends. Ultimately you will be working with a team of designers and marketers to create exciting clothing products which will be based on seasonal trends.
Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities of a fashion designer include the following:
- Collaborating with team members to select seasonal themes and hence making edits to lines and creating new concepts.
- Ensure the products are in agreement with the business strategy
- Selection of fabrics and trims
- Collaborating with a technical designer to ensure development packages and accurate
- Create production sketches for development packages.
Key requirements
The key requirements of a fashion designer can be provided as follows:
- Ability to do sketches by hand
- Availability to travel for research and product development
- Proven work experience as a Fashion designer or similar role
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Adobe Illustrator
- Excellent conceptual and designing skills
- A bachelor’s degree in design or fine arts would be preferred
- Relevant training and/or certifications as a Fashion Designer
