Who is a Revenue Accountant?
Revenue accountants are essential to the financial management of many types of industries. Sometimes referred to as senior accountants, revenue accountants exist in manufacturing companies, wholesale distribution, health care, retail, and just about any field of business that processes sales and service revenue.
What does a Revenue Accountant do?
Revenue accountants are responsible for a wide variety of duties and responsibilities and handle all financial aspects of a company. The primary responsibility involves intense monitoring of accounts payable and receivable. Revenue accountants are in charge of the daily reconciliation between bank and company accounts as well as handling daily receipts, monthly revenue intake sheets, spreadsheet files, and inter-company reports and communications to investors, partners, and stakeholders.
Job brief
Our team is looking to hire a Revenue Accountant that will be an integral part of our growing team. This role is responsible for partnering closely with the product and systems teams to ensure that business transactions activity is appropriately captured and accounted for in our financial statements. The ideal candidate will be highly analytical, be able to work in a collaborative and fast-paced environment and show strong leadership skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Be in the mindset to take on new tasks, operationalize and streamline them, and move on to new additional responsibilities
- Continuously improve business processes, systems, and enhance documentation and controls as part of our SOX compliance efforts
- Partner with the e-commerce and retail teams to build scalable revenue recognition processes in Oracle Cloud
- Partner with the business to assist in the review of sales agreements to assess the revenue recognition impact
- Review current revenue recognition processes/procedures and implement process improvements to improve efficiency and timeliness of the close and reporting
- Prepare month-end journal entries and supporting schedules related to Square’s e-commerce, retail channels, processor cash inflows, and other areas
- Interface with Technical Accounting, Internal Audit and the Company’s independent public accounting firm on technical accounting matters
- Work with diverse and cross-functional teams, domestically and internationally
- Partner with Square’s Finance & Strategy team to investigate variances between actual results and forecasts and assist in the budgeting process as needed
- Support quarterly reviews and annual audits performed by external auditors
- Complete special projects as needed
Key requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, CPA a plus
- 4+ years of accounting experience
- Previous role(s) should include internal or external audit, GL accounting, and/or revenue accounting
- Technical knowledge and practical knowledge of revenue recognition standards ASC 605 and ASC 606
- Tech-savvy, strong at Excel - SQL experience a plus
- Oracle Cloud experience a plus
